This Is The Year of Ochún!

Like the Afro-Cuban goddess of love that this orchestra is named after, Ochún brings us the good things in life. A good Cuban cigar and a glass of the smoothest Cuban rum are hard to come by and must be slowly savored; so must we treat ourselves to the music of Ochún! It resonates with the music and song from the best orchestras and soloists Cuba has produced; Arcaño y sus Maravillas, Beny Moré, Orquesta Aragón, Sonora Matancera, Arsenio Rodriguez y su Conjunto and José Fajardo y su Orquesta, just to name a few. The musical styles: son, montuno, guajira, guaguanco, rumba and bolero are present here and are interpreted with a modern flair. Miguel Garcia’s lead vocals are superb – the quintessential voice of a fine Cuban cantante (singer); this is music you can dance to as well as listen to. The beautiful rhythms and songs of Cuba are re-born anew in Ochún’s music – it splashes on the soul as a fresh new sea wave. As is said in Cuba, “¡Esto no le falta nada – está entero!” (It’s not missing anything – it’s complete!). I highly recommend both of Ochún’s CD offerings, “Ochún” y “En el Año de Ochún”, they are a wonderful addition to any musical collection.
