Miguel Garcia Cuban Singer and Songwriter

Jose Luis Armengot, began his musical career in his homeland Bonao, Dominican Repuiblic. At the age of 13 Jose began studying piano and later trumpet.

In 1986 his family moved to Santiago de los Caballeros, Santo Domingo where he studied at the Academia Municipal de Santiago. Luis immersed himself in the music of this city. He joined the Cultural Center of Santiago, where he studied classical music and symphonic band. There he performed with many well known bands of Santiago.

Jose Luis was influenced by Edwin Ridley (Guitarist), and Enrique del Rosario (bass) who would introduce him to the world of jazz.

In 1999 Jose went to a summer performance program at the University at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Jose performed for 4 years with the group Chichi Peralta. He also performed for 5 years with the group Jaun Luis Guerra, 440 and many other groups in Santo Domingo.

Jose is currnently performing with Ochun and various other jazz groups in New York City.
